Wireless rearview cameras??

Has anyone had any experience using a wireless rearview/ reversing camera and lcd screen. Like the type on ebay. I want to know if they are any good to use as a rear view mirror whilst pulling my caravan. Would prefer to be able to see whats behind me a little easier.

The outcome was that the person originating the thread bought a wireless system but wished that he had bought the wired one as he experienced some reception/interference problems

I have used a wired system which just means connecting one phono lead inside the car boot and its has been most usefull.

My friend has an auto electrical business and they only install wired systems

I meet up with agroup of motor caravanners on rallies and they tell stories of seeing themselves off local CCTV when the camera picks up the signal.One guy was able to tell his mate how much diesel he had bought etc as his camera picked up the filling station CCTV

Hopefully someone will come along with the other side of the discussion but I would stay wired

This is the problem I thought I may have.

I am not keen on having a wired system for the simple reason its a brandnew caravan and I dont want to start removing stuff for the wires. I like things to look as neat as they can, exposed wires are not an option.

I am going to the NEC next sunday, maybe there will be something there on demo.

You still need 12V power to the camera and a sender that is best fitted as far forward as possible

If you run mini trunking behind a curtain you can drill a small hole in the floor or use a vent and run the wires underneath the van

Because of the habitation relay you need to pick up 12V from the feed to the fridge

I have a wireless system that was bought in the US for $35. Cheap but works well, the camera / sender picks up its power from the reversing light bulb feed and the screen feed comes from the cigarette lighter so is really easy to fit. I don't know if it is available on the web but it's worth a look.The only thing is that it works on 2.4 Ghz so it does pick up the odd thing from elsewhere. This could be rectified by powering the screen from the reversing light feed too which I intend to do to mine when I get time.

You will need to check with Radio Agency if you American wireless camera is actually legal in the UK. Whilst the technology may use the 2.4GHz band, the specific frequencies it uses or the power of the transmitter may contravene the terms of use for the band.
