WIRING DIAGRAM FOR A CAMPERVAN/MOTORHOME

I have recently purchased a 1992 Talbot Compass Calypso Campervan. I have only been on one trip with my wife, but we noticed that the Fridge, Hot Water and Oven/Hob did not seem to work. I feel a bit as though I am missing something, but can't find out what it is. I have subsequently bought a Waeco CAS-60 Fridge to replace the Electrolux one previously installed. However cannot seem to find any power coming from the 12v Leisure Battery. The wiring diagram in the manual does not answer the problem particularly with my lack of wiring systems knowledge. Is there something that controls the Fridge, Hot Water and Oven/Hob that could have broken down or what? Any suggestions greatly welcomed. Calypso Al.

I would suggest that as you admit to your lack of knowledge on van systems that you get an engineer to do it for you and ensure everything is safe and working correctly.

I also note that the Waeco is a stand alone unit and NOT suitable for built in applications, therefore it cannot be fitted to your van.

A couple of pointer that may help.

First have you checked the gas? I presume that the oven/hob is gas and doesn't need 12v (unless there is some isolating solenoid vale!). The fridge and water heater will use gas too.

Have you got a little distribution panel with switches and fuses for Lights/Acc/Water? Maybe one of the fuses has gone.

If the Electrolux fridge is gas, is it lighting? (there is a small glass in the back of my Electrolux where you can see the pilot light when lit).

Like others I am little confused as to what you actually mean. Your fridge works on both 240 volt AC and gas, as well as 12 volt when driving. Does it work on either, or nothing at all? Similarly your water heater can work on gas alone, or 240 volt alone, or both depending on which model is fitted. Again does the fault apply to only one power source or all? As mentioned by others have you checked the obvious? Is there gas in the cylinder? Is the regulator working? If so, then the hob should work at least. There are also a set of master valves for fridge, water heater and oven in a cupboard somewhere. Have you checked these are open? They lie in line with the discharge pipes to be open.

Do the lights and electrical sockets work? If so, then I am not so sure where a wiring diagram is so relevant. The fridge and water heater are usually protected by the main RCD box. Have you checked this has not tripped?

If all else fails then take the van to a dealer for a check.

If the Electrolux fridge has failed then you would be better advised to replace it with a new Dometic model of the same size, as this will be a virtual straight swop. Check the Dometic web page with your existing model number. However, it is unusual for it to fail on all power sources as a failure in one usually means an element has burned out and as the circuits are separate the other should work.
