Wives new car wheel size

The wife just picked up a 2023 suzuki ignis and I want to get a spare wheel for it. My brain is disengaged at the moment,,so what size wheel 🛞?

Looks like a 16" wheel 175 60 R16 . My car came with a tin of sticky stuff in a can in the boot. I was foolish enough to use it and ****** up the tyre. still haven't bought a spare wheel

I always get a spare wheel for my cars, dont trust that bubble gum stuff. If the sidewall of the tyre is damaged its no good.

I found out the hard way on the side of the M6 heading for Castle Douglas beginning of July. The whole thing waited over 2 hours for rescue then paid out £ 155 for new tyre . Arrived at the site 6pm the overall journey should of taken a couple of ours instead over 4 hours late. Looking for that spare now. Thanks for the reminder.

I just used a space saver spare wheel specialist. Input the cars details and the gave prices for space saver or full size steel. Could add jack and wheel brace to the order. Did it o two Kia’s and the spare supplied fitted fine. And located properly in the wheel space under the boot floor.

Having AWD needed a full size in the Kuga which fitted the well, but raised the floor with 50 mm polystyrene Got an Alloy so matches and can be used permanent. Wife’s Fiesta got a steel slimy and jack from the Wheel Warehouse. Once using Gunge tyre and pressure sensor need replacing, so cheaper in long term buying spare .

Did not realise you were after a full size alloy. Surprised Ignis has a wheel well to take a full size wheel. Impressive.

The trouble in using repair gunge is that many tyre shops quite H&S and environmental rules that prevent them from repairing a reparable puncture. So you are hit by the bill for a new tyre. Yet Continental and Michelin provide guidance on the process to repair a tyre that had been subject to a temporary repair using gunge. Ripping the motorist off.

I used a full size alloy in a Forester but it would not sit right in to the well. In UK Subaru would not supply an adaptor kit yet in Oz full sized spare is mandatory and the load area floor is modified and raised. Looked at buying one from Oz but it was a ridiculous price to buy and ship. So used rigid foam to give my boot floor a slight lift. Simples.

The wheel is 16" - that's easy to see from the tyre size. But it's not just the diameter you need to think about if you're buying another wheel to fit, it's also the offset, bolt pitch circle diameter, bolt size and the centre hole bore diameter. Now there are a few popular norms, but you need to check the spec details, not just buy any 16" wheel you come across.

A Quick Look at Suzuki on Google shows a large number of different wheels and tyres sizes depending on the model with the Ignis range, eg GL or GLS.

Surely your handbook and the tyre guide plate on the car will tell you ?

There’s a lot of wheels and tyres out there🤪.I’d hate you to waste your hard earned pound notes😉

Thank you, the Toyota came with a spare wheel, my previous posts were describing my mods to Kias and Subaru using either bought space savers (Kias) or full size alloy (Subaru)

It's a pain not having anywhere to store the wheel due to battery/electronic-wizardry under the boot floor but at least it gives the reassurance that you can continue the journey in the event of a puncture. When I sell a car I then sell the wheel on Facebook Marketplace.

Agree. I bought a full size Subaru wheel from IMG the Subaru importers. It was a genuine Subaru alloy but discontinued line. Around £80 back in 2014. When I sold the car it gave me a tidy profit. I fitted it with a part worn Bridgestone with 5mm tread depth as that would enable me to use it with the other then new tyres or when they were wearing. Subaru can be fussy on tyre tread depth differences between wheels. It paid dividends when I had non repairable puncture in Bangor on a. Sunday. The "spare" went on and was used till I sold the car, and all I had to buy from Kwik Fit was a new tyre to replace the non-repairable one. The other tyres were then down to 4-4.5mm so a putting brand new tyre onto the car could have also required three new tyres too.

Wasn't the Sabaru AWD as AWD drives can be fussy on tread depth. Is the RAV4 also AWD? I didn't think that wise people still used Kwik Fit? 🤣

Yes Subaru are sensitive as it’s full time four wheel drive with center differential. From memory the recommendation was less than 1mm variation all around. So tyre rotation was a must around every 5000 miles.

The RAV is 2WD so tyre rotation not as important as on the Forester. So I tend to run fronts down to 3mm, remove, bring rears to the front and then put new tyres on the rear. All helps to keep the back end where you want it.
