A 59-year-old woman is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed several times at a holiday caravan site in Lincolnshire.

Police called to Brandy Wharf Farm Caravan Site in Waddingham on Monday night said they were treating the attack as attempted murder.

The woman was taken to Scunthorpe Hospital where she is in a serious but stable condition.

Her car was also stolen and later found abandoned in Corby, Northamptonshire.

'Random attack'

It is believed that some of her personal belongings were stolen along with her red Skoda Octavia car.

Det Insp Suzanne Davies said: "This was a very serious attack and the victim could have lost her life, thankfully she is recovering in hospital and is with her family.

"I have a dedicated team of detectives who worked tirelessly throughout the night, and we are working closely with Northamptonshire Police to arrest the suspect.

"Specially trained search teams will continue with their investigations at the caravan site today. This appears to be a random attack, and thankfully incidents of this nature are very rare in our county."

The victim's son Dale Couch, 34, said in a statement: "Dad passed away last year and this has been a really difficult time for us.

"I just can't believe this has happened. I want to appeal to anyone with information to call the police and help them in any way they can."

Never heard of that sort of thing on a campsite before.

I saw somthing bizzare on a French campsite a few years ago, A pist up Brit was told to leave his keycamp mobile home on his first day for being a nuisance, he went chasing the campsite owner through the woods with an hammer or axe, eventually got arrested.

In no way do I condone this type of behaviour on campsites or in any other place in our society, and also my thoughts go out to the victim and her family ,but having said that my wife and I visited this site as it is about 25miles from our home and as it has river frontage ,we thought it would be suitable to take our grandchildren for a weekend and make use of our small boat on the river , We arrived on site and were greeted with piles of junk. rows of old and decrepid caravans , and general filth ,"reception" (I use this term advisely) was an utter disgrace, the site appeared to occupied by gangs of youths, I wont even try to discribe the toilet block.

I add this post to warn others on this forum to stear clear as I am sure all fellow members have a certain standard , all sites dont have to be to the standards of the best CC /CCC or comercial sites but there is a limit on how far standards can be allowed to drop

Well you see, the campsite owner has his government to blame. If only the nasty French hadn't banned Staffordshire Bull Terriers from their campsites, he might have had one for a pet and he could simply have set the dog on the drunken Brit rather than be chased through the woods which is so tiring, all that running and stuff.

Far easier to sit in a deck chair drinking wine and command the dog to sort the problem out.

That's the French for you, always create a crisis out of a drama.

got to agree with Bazza, we were there last week. The place is an utter disgrace, quite how this qualifies as a 3 pennant site is beyond me! The shower rooms were covered in mud, and werent cleaned at all when we were there, the toilets werent much better.

The reception area is a complete hovel and the smell is awful. Most of the staff live in the decrepid caravans onsite, and were the main instigators in most of the late night noise.

We wont be going back
