Hi All, My Family and I have just come back from a weekend at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire.

I seeem to always have the same problem ( 3rd time we have been away ) the wooden slats at the front of our Swift Challenger 550, always get stuck it only happens once the van has been moved?

Only problem it always need sorting when my wife and I have had a few too many, so not the best time to try to fiddle about with wooden slats!

My wife has also just commented where do you fellow caravaners put the table when you make up the bed, as it does not fit under the slats etc.

Look forward to your expertise

Hello Phil & Kate

Most modern caravans have a dedicated area for storage of the table when in transit. Usually in a narrow base cupboard and the interior of the wardrobe (where you should find securing straps).

Now the slats are another thinig. They always seem to have a mind of their own, especially when attempting to make up the bed after a few bevviesssss. Sorry I can't help you with this problem.

I realize that after a few you are maybe raring to get in to bed but slow down a bit lad and take your time.

With care pull forward the plinth that is attached to the slats and keep it in the grooves. The only time you have to lift it is over the bump stop's. Just take your time then throw the covers on and dive in.

We have the opposite problem with our new Abbey Spectrum 416. The slats seem too loose and if I'm not ultra careful they fall off into the gap between the seat bases - and once one goes, the rest follow. The gap between the runners is 1cm more at one end than the other, and while this doesn't seem a lot I am convinced it's enough. One of the slats actually fell off under the chest of drawers on one occasion - and it's so difficult to put them back. . . I never had this problem with my Eldiss - but then there are lots of problems I didn't have with it.
