We have a dometic frdige in our caravan and it does not coll down properly on electric but works fine on gas. Any idea of what the problem could be and if it is a DIY job or an expensive trip to the dealer.

Which electric, 12v or 240? Have you checked the fuses and that power is getting to the element which means checking that the thermostat is working as well - ideally you need a multimeter.
If its the 240v circuit then if you are reasonably competant you can change the element and possibly the thermostat but you may have to remove the fridge to do it.
Don't forget that the 12v setting will really only maintain the cold, it takes ages to cool it down and of course only when connected to the car with the engine running.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but whilst Dave's advice may be correct, if to replace the element you have to disconnect the the gas supply or dismantle any other part of the gas system, then you are obliged to make sure the job is carried out by a competent person working to the gas regulations.

The fridge gets cool but not cold on 220v. We have never tried the 12v so no idea if it works or not although when you flick the switch the ligh comes on. Light also comes on when changing it to 220v. It has been suggested that failure on the electric side is due to the heating element going faulty.
Elements only normally fail completely.
I would check the thermostat is working if the 230V control is fully turned up - sometimes you can hear a faint click as you turn the control knob.

Are you aware there has been a recall on the Dometic fridges, dependant of year and serial numbers ,this has been a topic on here previously and depending on where you are I can suggest a good guy to repair it

For information, the recall on dometic fridges relates to a screw holding the gas burner in place, it *may* work loose, and is replaced with a rivet.
The recall has nothing to do with the electric heater part of the fridge.

I had a fridge failure on 12v use and after many checks with the dealer it turned out to be a burnt out circuit board behind the control panel. This can be checked very easily by pulling off the knobs and removing the front plinth (depending on model of course). In my case I spent over
