Hi Can anyone shed light on the following.

If your in France and you have an accident in your mode of transport, and you have to leave it there for recovery.

question do they check over htere to see if the mode of transport is repairable?

If its written off do they deal with it over there?

Or do they bring it back?

I know it most probably only a question for anyone who has had an accident, there is no infomation I can find on the subject with insurers.

Hi. In June this year we had a blow out on the Car between Alencom and Le Mans and ended up smashing into the concrete central reservation.

The Car and Caravan were both returned to the UK by the Prudentail and the NFU.

The Man in the Garage in France thought the Sorento was a write off but it still had to come back. Took about two weeks.

Both were then examined in the UK. The Sorento was declared a write off (only 2 yrs old) but the caravan will be repaired. Now have a new Toyota Rav 4 and awaiting repair on van.

Forunately we came out virtually unscathed, but very shocked. First incident in 40 yrs driving and 30 yrs towing.

Andrew, it sounds as if you were very lucky, it is good that nobody was injured.

Your story goes to prove how valuable insurance really is!

We all complain about the high prices and poor value for money. The high premiums quoted put so many people off ensuring they have full recovery and personal injury cover. Many people I have spoken to on sites in Spain risk not taking out the extra cover.

If you had not been insured properly you would be looking at a recovery bill that would run into many thousands of pounds.

To anyone considering risking it....just think first, it can only take a puncture!

Hi Guys

Sorry to hear about your mishap John.

The reason I ask is my sister and hubby have just had an accident on their bike in France, they came home after 10 days of my sister being in hospital.

Her hubby has been told if the bikes a write off they get rid of it over there. But, they had had put on extras and had just re taxed it. They thought they were fully covered on insurance but sadly not, the bike was covered from all ways, but they had no personal ins. They can claim money back for flying home etc.

It was a nightmare just getting them back, there insurance co. doesn't seem very good to me. I don't like to ask to much.

I agree it costs a bit more on insurance with CC but there worth it.

As we are also with Prudential could i ask whether you had full comprehesive insurance for abroad and not as some people say that you are only covered for third party even if you have full cmp' here like we have. Many thanks.
