My first caravan was in 1968(1965 Dormobile) and was a 9ft 3in long Bluebird Europe 3 second hand at £135
We bought it in Stoke at Easter when having my son christened and first tow that week was to Berlin via East Germany
We had 2 children under 2 and went to Istanbul with the van that year
Note on roof rack one of 2 jerry cans showing and home made box that doubled as kitchen unit with the top as the table !!
We paid £45 for a new awning and after 2 years sold the outfit for £200 in Berlin to someone who begged us to sell it to him
Pic below is of the van and car on a layby in Jugoslavia with obligitary urchin begging
We gave him a tin of rice pudding to ensure safe passage
The car cost £440 ex NAAFI and Wolfsburg and petrol to military personel was 1s 6d a gallon when it was 5s in UK
It made for cheap touring
