i had the same problem , i then cut 10cm of all 3 poles and then fitted fine, if the poles are too long it will not get a close fit against the caravan wall.

I was on the motorway today, coming north from the midlands and just south of manchester on the south bound carrageway there was a caravan lying on it's side with the a 4x4 something like a frontera also on it's side, all the emergency services were arriving, but there were alot of rubberneckers...
