Oops forgot to say we've always gone Dover - Calais, a long drive but it can easily be done in two days if you both drive. A friend of mine has travelled to Santander and it took them 14 hours to the med. Hope this helps.

Hi Lesley - we've been to Lake Gaarda twice and used Germany/Austria both times. Not sure if this is quicker than via France (about the same I've been told) but it's certainly cheaper as there are no motorway tolls.

Just returned from St Tropez, first long journey with the car - it was great with one small exception - fuel consumption. I've heard they can be chipped which would help, has anybody done this and what sort of improvement do you get.
