    Weekenders hog Peak District

No, no, no! Scotland is cold, wet and miserable. There are midges everywhere and the natives aren't friendly. You'll hate it!

    Information on electric kettles

If I have too many electrical appliances on at the same time, the MCB in the 'van trips before the outside bollard. It certainly saves me having to do mental arithmetic. Mind you, the problem is almost always caused by switching on the hair dryer in a dozy state.

troutbeck head cc site, penrith, cumbria

Hi Ian, Glad you had a good time. Troutbeck is one of my favourite sites. Don't worry about the heating. It's not nice to wake up in the middle of the night feeling cold!

    Caravan Club Kinlochewe

Kinlochewe is a site for sightseeing, hill walking and the like. There are no towns nearby so spending money in shops is not an option! It can be rather midge-infested in the summer months. I seem to remember hearing that the toilet block has been refurbished. In brief, the site is in a...

    Mercedez ML

I had a '53 ML270CDI and loved it. Towed my Senator Oklahoma without trouble. I averaged 24+mpg over the 36k miles I had the car (including towing). Servicing is based on demand - readout tells you when it's due. I believe it monitors the condition of the oil so if you are happy to do a six...

    Sites in Highlands of Scotland

You can now plug your own co-ax cable into the electric bollards for decent TV reception. Cable available to purchase from reception if necessary

    sat nav

Mike, the Caravan Club tends to say not to use satnav when travelling to their sites for the very reason that you mention. Many satnavs use shortest route which is often NOT the quickest. Much better to use the directions in the handbook.

Spelling/Proof Readers on Practical Caravan website

I agree, there should be an apostrophe as it's the school of the children!

    unpaid site/storage fees

I don't know anything about the legal position in Spain but it seems perfectly reasonable to me! In the UK, there is the right of lien which gives, for example, a garage the right to keep your car until you pay any outstanding bills. I think that implies the right to sell if the money is not...

    Bikes at Baltic wharf

It's a few years since I was at BAltic Wharf but I wouldn't have said it was a cycle-friendly site. As sandt has said, there is access to the quayside but would you want a ten year old cycling there? I think you would have to travel from the site to find decent cycling tracks.

    Gas BBQ

One last thought....I bought a Weber Q200 last year as I found the heat distribution in my (very) cheapo BBQ was terrible. The Weber is first class and has a huge cooking area.

    Sites in Highlands of Scotland

Paul, I know you feel you must go to John o' Groats but you will be sadly disappointed. It really is a dump, and that's from a Scotsman! With some investment, it could be so different! We were at Dunnet Bay in April. Fabulous sunsets but it was a bit windy! I agree that the roads to the...

Why can't I book a site for August Bank Holiday?

But the fearsome and infamous Kinlochewe midges will get you!

    Another newbie daft question

Plotter, I think you may find there is a small rubber bung (no tube any more) at the bottom left. It took me years to spot it! Because there is no tube, it tends to dribble into the compartment.

    Nothing to do with caravans

I can recommend Miele appliances. We have a washing m/c, tumble dryer, dishwasher and vacuum. They last for ever! They are expensive but they do work.
