    Roof Boxes.

I've used roof boxes for some years mainly for long stay in Spain and found them very useful.I have a front hinged Thule Voyager and a side hindged other make. The longer box is the more useful for windbreak poles etc although I new carry these in a capped length of 4 inch underground drain pipe...

    ‘Smart’ motorways

Recent experience of engine power problems while towing on the smart sections og M6 were easily the most stressful of my 50 plus years with a caravan. The section was still under build so no overhead signs but no hard shoulder either. Fortunately we made about 30 miles to a site at around 20mph...

How to park a caravan | Towing with a Caravan | Drive in | 1974

Great stuff ! Even a Retrovisor periscope - lost mine at moderatly high speed on German autobahn from Volvo towing Sprite Alpine in 1970 . Didn't see or here it go - nearly dark. Expected to see some impact damage on the caravan but not a touch. Something not mentioned was that caravans then...

    Pulling away?

I don't think you need to worry about the chassis. Back in the 70's there was full blown circuit racing at Silverstone and other places and I can assure you full power was applied at the starts without any subsequent problems. Others have questioned your reasons - I would only suggest you...

90 Day in 180 days limit on travel in EU

I looked into this a while ago so may not be the same now. For stays of more than 90 days it seemed you needed to get a visa initially by personal visit/s to the embassy or agency of the country/countries but there after renewable on line. This would have involved visits to London with timed...

    Old Whale Aquasource 'block' connector

I might well have but not sure which bit you particularly want. Ask the mods for my email address then we can compare bits. If I have one it's yours for the postage.

Ease of using full caravan cover

Years ago I had a good quality cover for a 545 size caravan. It took two of us to put on using yard brooms tucked inside the front corners and then one walking from front to back each side. Before fitting we had to protect the sharp corners of gutters etc, and remove spike of the Status antenna...

    Winter use of Truma combi

With the caravan drained own and sulking about not going to Spain I've been wondering about use of the Combi heating to do an occaisional warm through/ The instruction book is pretty clear about using only water heating in the summer but I've not found anything about using the unit for warm air...

    Ring RAC630 Inflator

To give the inflator the full 12+ volts so that it runs efficiently. Otherwise the voltage drop up the rather thin power leads means it suns much more slowly and tends to get hot before reaching pressure.

    Whale IC Pump Problems

My caravan has a Whale on board with surge suppressor fitted as standard. but I've also used Sureflo - both fine. I'm not convinced about Ecocamel shower head either. You may find the on-board pump will give better pressure at the shower head but it gets though the water quicker too

    Air compressor pump

Pencil type gauges are not more than an indication in my opinion. Many of the pressure gauges fitted to pumps are pretty poor quality and expected accuracy at say 65psi can't be much better than plus/minus say 3 psi. As a retired Measurement and Control engineer this is a constant irritation to...

Water filters in Aquaroll with on board pumps

Agree, a particulate filter on the bottom of the inlet pump is probably enough, particularly if you are going to boil the water anyway. If not boiling and worried, sterilise with a decent ratio of Scotch.

    Ring RAC630 Inflator

I have a Ring 12v pre-set digital unit which does pump up to the 65psi for van tyres fairly easily. It connects easily and has an indicator also a button to relealse a little pressure if you set it too high. It works well from the sockets in the car - which are fused at 15 amps - so check your...

    Creacky Floor

I had a seriously creaky floor in my previous van. On examination of the 50 plus screws fastening furniture bed boxes etc to the floor less than 10% were actually doing anything and thus adding to structural rigidity. The dealer added some bracing, but this did little good. I eventually took a...
