07 Abbey Vogue 520/4 Rooftop Aircon Support

Hi Guys

As most of you know i live in Brisbane Australia and i have recently purchased a 2007 Abbey Vogue 520/4 and i am contemplating having a rooftp aircon fitted.

The aircon unit is an Aircommand Ibis 2 and weighs approx 48kg and we are removing the central 12v Fan.Hatch to locate it into which is nearly the same diameter 400 x 400.

Can anyone advise if the roof.Ceiling in that particular area already has the internal H Frame or support to accept the weight of the aircon unit.

A freind of mine who is an RV workshop manager as been up on the roof as well as below and has confirmed that it does have the added support built in at manufacturing stage.

Does anyone know if this is correct.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Tony.

The safest thing that you could do is to contact Swift Caravans (www.swiftgroup.co.uk) who built your caravan, and ask them the question.

That's a lot of weight for a relatively small hole cut through a structure. Unless Swift say you can then don't do it.

I think that is the average weight of the majority of rooftop aircon units and they are designed to fit through your existing 12v extractor fan/hatch when removed so long as you have internal or an external H Frame to support its weight.

I have contacted Swift and will not be doing anything until i hear back from them.

Just had an email back from Swift advising that my particular van after giving them the Vin No have said that around the original 400 x 400 hatch it does have the wooden supports however it is only rated to accept up to 36kgs and the Ibis aircon is 49kgs so to be safe i will have the alluminium H Frame fitted to the top of the roof.
