1 week from calais

hi all we live only 1 hour from dover & have 1 weeks hoilday end of may ( whitsun week ) . how far from calais would you travel for 1 week sat-sat , don't really want to spend all day traveling as we are of to the south of france in july , i like fishing , wife likes swimming pool , any ideas...pete p.s don't mind paying for longer sea crossing but its getting a bit tight for booking

You could always cross to Dunkirk with norfokline and head for Luxembourg instead. Less than 5 hours driving and plenty of huge rivers for you too fish in, plenty of sites with pools too.

Weather wise? end of may, cannot expect too much even if you headed south

Hi there

Luxembourg is a good idea. Lots to see and do and about 230 miles from Calais. You could also try Brugge, it's only about 65 miles from Calais. Have you thought about Holland and at that time of year will be full of flowers. The Loire is very pleasant but it is about 300 miles. This would be possible in the day especially if you took the tunnel. Or what about Paris.

Happy Travels BarryB

For about an hour or so from Calais St Valery sur Somme the Castels site is lovely (we got our discount card fron the CC, 16 Euros a night) with a heated indoor pool lots of facilities and a beautiful town, there is lot of water around but dont know what the fishing is like but saw plenty of fisherman fishing in the canal which goes to Abbeville from St Valery when we biked up the towpath last year

Have a look at the Camping Cheques, Touring Cheques, and ACSI websites (www.campingcheque.co.uk), (www.touringcheque.co.uk) and www.campingcard.com for 'discounts' over normal site fees in May (Around
