12v circuits only work when mains hook up connected

Hi all. My Elddis Crusader Sirocco 2000 is a great van, but the 12v items only work when the mains hook up is connected. The battery is new-it was fitted by local dealer as part of the 2009 service. I've tried the manufacturers help line but they refuse to diagnose by email saying refer to your local dealer. The handbook supplied with the caravan is generic one covering many models and is worse than useless. I'm certain it must be something simple-a switch or a fuse because everything works fine from the charger once the mains is hooked up. Please help!

Hi Ken,

I'm not that familiar with Elddis vehicles, but there is normally a separate 20Amp inline fuse, connected to the leisure battery. It can normally be found inside the bed box.

I would suggest that if the 12V circuits are OK, but no power is being drawn from the leisure battery, the first thing to check is this fuse. Just trace the wiring from the battery terminals to the main fuse box, and somewhere between there will be a fuse.

Thanks,

Ash

Many thanks, Ash. There is indeed a 25 amp blade fuse in the line between the caravan battery and charger (under the nearside front bed box). Initially, I was disappointed to find the fuse was OK when I pulled it. Closer inspection revealed that one of the main wires feeding the blade fuse socket itself had become disconnected at the socket(the connection is behind a safety plate screwed to the floor, so it was not immediately apparent). Remade connection, and Bob's yer uncle-12v circuits all OK. Happy bunny. I can even take the spare fuses back to the motor shop!
