Hi Tony
l think one of the best tyre inflator is Ring, lve had one for a couple of years and been great, the pressure gauge on it is true, and pump will shut off at a preset setting, comes in handy case cost about £29.
Hope this helps, Melvyn

Hi Tony,
I've had a few cheapo ones in the past, including those built into 12V boost start carry packs. All of them were very slow to inflate to a reasonable pressure and tended to get very hot if run for any length of time. Most destroyed themselves internally. I then bought a Ring RAC700 4x4 unit which is bigger and it has been superb. It copes with Landrover sized tyres and never seems to labour.
Don't know if they still make them but I would definitely buy one again. (And no, I have no connection to Ring!).

When I got my new Swift, which is 62psi for tyres, found my 12v pump just would not cope and took for ever with foot pump just to put a couple of psi in. Invested in a 'proper' mains compressor from Machine Mart which does the job with ease. Might be difficult to justify cost (about £150 I think for mine) just for tyres but I am a keen DIYer and model engineer so find it useful for spraying, cleaning, air tools etc. This of course would not solve the problem if you needed to inflate on site.
