12v fridge not woking when towing

Hi

First time out over bank holiday, great time,

the fridge does not work whilst towing, i have power to the fuses in caravan from the s plug, i think it switches a relay to kill all 12v inside apart from the fridge so the book says!!!

Any ideas please

Steve,

Was the fridge pre chilled before towing, as the 12v will only maintain the current temperature of the fridge, it will not chill from a standing start. Also was the 12v light on the fridge illuminated when the cars engine was running.

best regards, Martin

Have you checked for power using the fridge return, it has its own +/- supply.

Also if your power is correct as you say, check the 12v fridge element for continuity, it may have gone open circuit.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies

just checked joint plug behind fridge there is power there but no amps being drawn and it is open circuit, any ideas what next????

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve,

I had this problem and it turned out the car towbar electrics had been wrongly wired. Check the correct pin on the car's 12S socket is live.

My fridge cools well on 12v. As long as the drive is more than an hour or so the fins inside the fridge are almost freezing to the touch.

Hi Steve, I had this problem, had the 12volt side check out by engineer and the fridge worked, it turned out to be the Relay on the car wiring.Good luck.
