Currently on a nice CL with metered electricity. The base price of the pitch is very reasonable so I have no problem with the electricity being metered and will happily use as much as I need.
However, out of curiosity:
We are on EHU and are charging the leisure battery via the EHU. We have an Avtex TV that I can plug into the 3 pin socket or can run on 12volts via the 12v socket. Does running on 12v use less electricity than running from the 3 pin socket?. Or, because the battery is being charged via EHU, it makes no difference? or do I simply have no grasp whatever of how a Caravan electrical system works?
Interested to know.

In electrikery watts is watts, so whatever wattage the TV is rated for mains will be roughly the same when running off 12V. A slight variation will be because there will be a mains/12V external power supply to run the TV from mains which is slightly less than 100% efficient.
 
I 'd agree, if there is any difference between caravan vs TV psu any difference in efficiency is going to be small (approx. 2W) and not worth losing sleep or G&T time over

Thanks. I was more wondering if running an appliance via 12v while charging the leisure battery used less electricity than running the same appliance straight off ehu. Apparently there is little or no difference.

It comes down to the difference in two unknowns - the efficiency of the TV power supply and the efficiency of the caravan power supply.

Try thinking about two of your favourite alcoholic drinks - that won't give you the answer but is a better use of your time!

That not quite the same thing. The TV will consume virtually the same power in either scenario, but if the battery is accepting any charge that will be on top of what the TV uses.
