Just changed the car and van to the 13 pin system, took about 90 minutes to do both. Much neater and first time connection, no more fiddling with the sockets and running in and out of the van checking the fridge. Parts from tow sure, the wire colours match a data sheet from Western Towing, not all diagrams show the same colour wires.

Hi Steve,

I have a thirteen pin socket on my car and currently use a thirteen pin to seven pin 12N/12 S connecting lead. From reading your post I assume you have changed the two plugs on your caravan to a thirteen pin plug? If this is correct I would be very interested to know exactly what I need to buy to enable me to this. Many thanks in advance.

If you have a 13 pin socket already fitted to your car, all you need is the plug to fit, an appropriate lenth of 13 strand cable, ( I used 3 mtrs for car and van, a strip of good quality screw connectors. I cut the 12N & 12S plugs of the ends of the wires and pushed them up through the floor into the van, located the cut ends under bed box. Removed the outer covering from both cables and leaving plenty of cable to work with, cut and join the different wires one at a time.(I always solder the cut ends of wiring for a better connection) The 12N wires match the colours in the new cable. The 12S wires need to be transposed on to the wires as they are arranged in the old plug. ( These circuits can be found on Western Towing web site ) I then covered the connecting strip with a junction box and "Voila"

Hi Steve,

Your help and ideas are much appreciated, and many thanks for replying so quickly.

I will get my lad to do this job for me as he is a instrument technician and doing jobs like this all the time. My eyesight isn't what it used to be!!!

As you say, it saves a hell of a lot of messing about, and a much more reliable connection.

Just the job.........thanks again.
