13 Pin Socket

I have recently bought a late 2007 VW Touareg to tow my Elddis Crusader twin axle. part of the reason i bought this particular carwas that it had a factory fitted removable towbar with a 13 pin socket. I have bought cable and a socket to replace the 12n and 12s on my 2007 Elddis, just to make it all nice and neat. i thought i'd make a start yesterday as i am going on my first trip with the new car next week. To my surprise upon looking at the socket on the car, pins 10 and 11 are missing!! how on earth are you supposed to get the fridge working if the pins are not there?? Is this just a VW issue or have other people had similar problems? Could i go to the VW dealer and ask for this to be sorted as a warranty job, due to the fact that it is not fit for purpose for the brittish market? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Car manufacturers often leave connections to pins 10 and 11 out in order to save money as these are not absolutely necessary for other types of trailer. I know it's annoying, but it wouldn't be a warranty job. You would have to tell the dealer that you specifically need the connections in order to use a caravan fridge.

On Continental caravans, the fridge is connected to Pin No. 9 and Pin 10 is intended to be able to charge the caravan battery. However, very few caravans on the Continent have a battery. Hence the reason for some manufacturers to leave this connection vacant.

Stuart had Mitsubishi fit my new Shogun tow bar and electrics due to warranty issues informed them l was towing a caravan and needed it to run the fridge.

Mitsubishis electric pack plugs straight in on the wiring loom they said which would give me this facility and l had no problem with my fridge electrics, so l don't understand why other manufacturer's omit these pins.

I would only expect this to be an issue with cars from Continental manufacturers, not Japanese, and only if they import the towbar wiring from the Continent where caravans do not generally have a battery and the fridge is connected to Pin 9 instead of 10.
