15 amp fuse blowing

I have a 2004 Bailey Pageant and the 15amp fuse for the battery keep blowing when the mains is on. If I disconnect the battery it's ok but as soon as its connected again bang. The van was fine last time I used it in November but when I came to use it there was no power to my mover. I connected up to mains and thats when I Found out the fuse just keeps blowing. Could anyone please point me in the right direction to sorting out this problem?

If the fuse blows as soon as you connect the battery , then that indicates a direct short circuit somewhere.

Is the battery connected the correct way?

There could a few reasons for what is happening.

1. Battery Fault.

Disconnect the battery keeping the negative / positive leads insulated from each other.

Replace 15amp fuse run supply directly from mains.

If this works then the issue is with the battery.

If the fuse blows then the fault is internal to state the obvious.

I am looking for a warped plate inside the battery due to frost damage.

2. Interior of Caravan

Before switching on the mains power, isolate everything by switching off individual items, heater / kettle / water heater, etc

In turn switch on items one by one keeping a close eye on that fuse.

If everything works the problem is defiantly that of the battery.

i have a 2004 bailey senator, my manuel has drawing for your van so i should be able to help, once i can get my manuel out.

Mean while i would suggest you substitute your battery, replace the fuse and see what happens, a car battery would be ok for this test.

There was no short in the van and when I tried another battery it was fine. I put the original battery on a car charger in the garage. At first it drew a very large current and the charger kept overheating and cutting out. After about three hours the current droped and I left it on charge for 10 hours. The next day I put the battery back onto the van, connected back up to the mains and its been ok since. I think that the battery got so low that the caravan charger could not cope with the current demand and kept blowing the fuse.

Again thanks for the advice and i'm back in action again

thanks for getting back to us, while i'm not an expert on batteries, i would suspect that you may have lost some battery capacity, time will tell.
