1st Generation Diesel Sorento Tank Delamination

Hi Everyone
Applicability: All 1st Generation Diesel Sorentos 2002 to 2010

Bad News: this problem can result in many different symptoms ranging from non-starting, to poor starting, erratic running, loss of power or sudden engine stop at speed.
Good News: Kia Main Dealers are replacing the fuel tank and flushing the fuel systems FOC.

BUT, some dealers are insisting on an Inspection Charge to check your tank. If the problem is confirmed then that charge should become payable by Kia.

The best approach is through preventive maintenance by taking a look yourself. The following Link shows a DIYER what to do:

You will need join the Forum – it’s FREE with no strings – and scroll down to the pics to see the Post.

If you see a problem, take some pics and inform Kia Customer Services by email and ask advice. This way the Kia Dealer, you take it to, will be much less likely to be difficult about the FOC bit, as some have been, largely through ignorance it might appear.

The Fuel Pressure Sensor can also get blocked and cause re-starting problems after a tank change, which has been missed by some Kia Dealers. Anyway, everthing you should need to know can be found on the Forum with lots of owners willing to answer your questions and guide you.

Hope this helps fellow Sorento owners…

Good Luck...

My friend had this happen on their Sorrento 2 years ago, they broke down and were recovered and Kia paid for everything, tank, fuel pump, filter etc
