5 - 10p off Fuel?

I don't know if it's of any interest to anyone, but I came across a site that is trying to setup a discount fuel card system for the general public. No cost involved, and it has been recommended as being 'worth a try' by Martin Lewis, Radio 2 money saving expert. I have signed up this site, along will my work colleagues and over 100,000 other people!

The basics of the scheme are to sign up enough people to negotiate a discount of between 5 - 10p a litre of fuel. Although teh cards have not been issued yet, they are expecting to be able to issue card in the next few months as they say they have a deal with a major provider. May be worth a look?

I honestly cannot see there being enough people who would register in order to get the price of petrol down to even supermarket prices.

If they included company car drivers, they may have a chance

I registered about 6 weeks ago and today received the news letter from pipeline card,it states that everything is still planned to go ahead in aprill or may at the latest and that they now have over 250.000 people already signed up for the card, they only required 100.000 to make it viable. obviousley the more cards issued the larger the discount, so sign up today, what have you got to loose.

Dear Pipeline Card Member,

I just wanted to let you know that Pipeline Card now has over 200,000 members.

Well done to all of you who have worked to build up our numbers to that level.

If we keep this up, when we go live in April or May, we should have at least

400,000!

Meanwhile, while we have been carrying on our discussions and negotiations, we

have identified a possible opportunity to secure a discount on heating oil. We

know that some of you would be interested in this, because you have told us, but

how many?

If you are interested in cheaper heating oil, don't reply to this email, send a

separate short email to oil@PipelineCard.org. It's not guaranteed that we can do

it, but we need to get an idea of how many are interested.

That's it for now. Don't forget that you can recommend Pipeline by visiting

www.PipelineCard.org/recommend.html and you can unsubscribe as a member at any

time by sending a blank email to unsubscribe@PipelineCard.org.

Best wishes

Ben Scammell - Pipeline Card Founder

It's never going to happen, you may save 2 or 3 p if you are lucky and somebody else will compete or be tied into the deal like shopping ay Morrisons or something!

Oh that great british reserve!! nothing to lose but still cynicle. 2-3 pence is better than nothing but since this scheme has been profiled on top gear and on bbc radio as well as in mags like auto express i think i will go with the majority, it will happen and even if the supermarkets do get in on the act it can only bring down theire prices to match the card so we as consumers win hands down.

But can you please explain how they are going to fund selling at a loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even the BBC have now said that more than 3 or 4p is probably pie in the sky.

I have nothing to do with the admin of the card cris so i am unsure quite how it will be managed but i would imagine that if such a large amount of people are using one retailer then that retailer will have some serious clout with his buying power and will as such get a much better deal from the manufacturer. lets not forget that all the petrol companies have once again posted record profits so they have quite some room to reduce prices to a retailer who can guarantee such a large custom base.

this scheme is not a new idea it is already up and running in a few other european countries and is very succesfull. once again it costs you nothing but a few moments to register so its got to be worth doing.

on average i use 70 litres of diesel every 3 weeks which at todays price 91p a litre costs me 1146.60 a year, if we get 5 p off then i will save 63.00 or 1 1/2 tanks free! if we get the max 10p off then my saving is 126.00 or the equivelent of 3 free tanks of fuel and i do a relatively low mileage so others will be on a big saving. even 2-3 pence is the equivelent of 1 free tank of fuel per year.
