hi can anyone tell me the weight of the above mentioned car for towing as we are thinking of buying one. Only prob is our van is a large 6 berth any advice or help on this would be great many thanks in advance

Min kerb weight 1525Kg,

Max towed mass 1600Kg

Always try to keep the caravan weight as low as possible, and the cars weight as high as possible without exceeding any of the manufacturer limits.

A large 6 berth caravan can easily exceed 1600Kg so is likely to be too big for the car.

thanks John L for your reply,we are looking to buy a saab our caravan is a sterling europa so we are just looking at what would be best to tow with at the moment we are throwing all different cars into the hat to see what will come out top, but i like the look of the saab

Hi J&G

I tow with a SAAB 9-3 2.2 Vector. Our 'van is an Abbey GTS 416 and we are well over the 85% kerbweight/MTPLM guideline. That said, the car tows well under normal road conditions and I make sure never to over-rev or get myself into embarrasing situations with it.

Unfortunately, the down side is that I have to be very careful in picking sites, both for ground conditions (avoid slippery surfaces/ non-level pitches etc) and those site with slopes, usually CL/CS.

I have found that it is very easy to spin the front wheelsin some conditions.

For these rasons we are, albeit reluctantly, changing the car for something a bit heavier.

I'll be sad to see the motor go as, in general driving conditions (A/B roads & motorways), the car has been great.

As implied further down this post, you need a bit of margin when trying to manoeuvre the 'van, especially at low speeds.

have you considered the 9-5?

This has a bigger kerb weight and you may find cheaper than the 9-3.

for some reason people dont take to the 9-5 and much as the 9-3 and you can pick up really good ones for very little money.

When I have to go to my Glasgow offices we usually hire a 9-5 saloon (auto) and its a good car to drive. One of my directors swears by them , again because you get good specs but way cheaper than compartive rivals. He has towed with his but no idea how he rates it.
