8’0” wide caravan with fixed bed under 1500kg MTPLM?

The Bailey Brindisi is much lighter at 1539kg. So far the lightest 8’0” wide fixed bed I have found albeit still too heavy, and Bailey no longer offer to downplate their vans.

You don’t have to load it all the way to its MTPLM if you can cater for your overall luggage/payload in other ways. IE cut back, stow more in car, smaller swing etc.

I know all that but try telling your insurer! And, the dealer refused to sell me a Brindisi because it is more than the cars tow weight limit.

The dealer obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. Not only, as Otherclive says, do you not have to load the caravan up to its MTPLM in order to stay within the car's towing limit, but the towing limit isn't a legal limit, either. There's absolutely no reason for an insurer to object to such a combination.

Not one dealer I have contacted will sell me any van with an MTPLM above the cars limit. Their public liability insurers will not allow them, allegedly.

You should ask them to point to the source of any such restriction in related legislation. They'll have a hard time to be able to provide any written proof.

That should only be a purely hypothetical question as it would be an unnecessary way to go and would involve unnecessary costs.
I know that but the OP seems to have hit an impasse with dealerships. Another hypothetical one would be buy pre owned privately and transfer warranty. Alternatively buy a caravan more in keeping with the cars towing specifications that will satisfy a dealership. I don’t know if they are applying the 85% guide or what criteria is being applied. I’ve had three cars where the max tow limit was much higher than the cars weight. disco2, Sorento 1, and SWB Pajero.,
