Has anyone bothered with these stickers I understand you should have them if your outfit weighs more than 3500kg and you wish to travel over 80km/hour

I think its just a speed sticker had a search on fleabay hadnt seen much about it.I thin k the speed limits have changed where if you have a large outfit(over 3500kgs) you cant do the national speed limit which I rarely did anyway as the fuel goes down quicker than Lindas wine bottle.I do try to go around 60 mph though to keep out of the HGV's way so think I may need the sticker.Happy to go at 80km though if I'm not sure.Probably be available at the truckstop by Pidou at Calais if I'm stuck

The Vienna Convention of 8thNovember 1968 states that as long as a vehicle is legal in it country of registration it is legal to proceed through the EEC.

Convention is a long time ago. UK vehicles without beam deflectors are legal in UK but do not recommend you use them unmodified in Europe, and I'm sure other examples could be found e.g. speed camera detectors or indicators may be legal in UK but not in France.
For the very small price of the stickers I fit them and remove a possible reason for the gendarmes to stop me, when they might well 'discover' more serious infringements if the are in that frame of mind
My French is passable to good but I really don't fancy testing it by arguing at the roadside.

I live in France and have registered 2 caravans here. The 90kph stickers were never mentioned and I've never seen a caravan over here with them fitted. I understand that it isn't the weight of the complete outfit but the weight of the caravan (or trailer) that counts.
in France if the tow vehicle has a GROSS TRAIN WEIGHT of 3500kg or over it is speed restricted to the lower speed when towing no matter what the trailer weighs Ie 500kg its not the trailer weight that matters but the gross train weight of the tow car
in effect you can tow say 1500kg with a car that has a GTW under 3500 at 130kph where allowed
but if you car has a GTW of 3500 you can only tow at 80 kph if you are towing period

You don't require a 90kmhr sticker when in France but adherence to their speed limits is required. The lower set of limits apply to outfits over 3500kg but a car doesn't have GTW the GTW is made up of the cars MAM or GVW plus the MTPLM in the case of a caravan. Even if the car and van are unloaded and have a combined weight of say 3150kg they would still be subject to the 90kmhr autoroute/ dual carriageway limit if their maximum combined loaded weight was above 3500kg.

Just looking at the V5 the Mass in Service which aligns with kerb weight if you adjust for the driver etc. The Revenue Weight is what was MAM or GVW IE the max weight of the loaded vehicle.
