A caravan service going to be a farce

I dropped my caravan off for it's first service on Saturday and the guy from Barrons asked why I ahd not cleared my caravan out ie my awning and why my cupboards were not empty he says they might not be able to do an accurate damp test as the cupboards were full and he says I should have emptied them but I told him that when I booked the service I was not told this am I entitled to a free damp check if I empty my van when I come back from my holidays in September & has anyone ever had this experience.

We bought an almost 2 year old caravan which was still under warranty. Booked it into Lowdams for a service and damp check over the phone. On arrival we were told that it had to be empty ,which meant taking everything out then and there. We had no letter either and to make matters worse they need it for a week. It is going in again next week and is sitting on the drive completly empty. Next year we will phone around and try to have done in a day. Surely there is not that much to check that it takes a week and costs more than the car.

We have always taken our 'vans to be serviced complete with contents, and have never come across this problem.

We even to our last 'van to be "serviced" in January, bought a brand new one, left the old 'van with them, picked the new one up two weeks later and they had emptied our old 'van for us.

Good job there was nothing embarrassing in there!!! :O)

This ponders an interesting question and I believe that I speak for many men on this forum

WHAT HAVE YOU GOT IN YOUR VAN THAT IS EMBARRASSING?

and

DO YOU HAVE ANY PICTURES???

🙂

We would never leave anything in the van as I wouldn't trust that it would still be there when we got the van back.

If something goes missing how do you prove it and who would be liable? + What if something in your belongings is found damaged after service ?

I can't see that the dealers want responsibility for your belongings no matter how honest they believe their staff to be.

I would also expecty the dealer to be honest on the time he charges for and putting obstacles in his way is not exactly fir deal!

Mendip Caravans of Newport won't allow any gas bottles to be left in vans being serviced (since their fire). Wish they'd told me when I booked the service!

On same day return, I find you have to book much longer ahead and then get through a further argument on the day.

I take a lot of our stuff out of the van (although they've never mentioned it) - it's a chance for a clean-out of all the crud we gather over the year.

We also had our van serviced at Lowdhams and were told prior to the service that the van had to be empty for 'health and saftey' reasons, we were given a leaflet stating this when we booked the service.

Thats very interesting we have never been asked to empty the contents out when it goes in for a service or a damp test. In the 16 we have been caravaning nothing has gone missing when in the dealers what worries me more is are my damp tests valied.
