I am trying to locate one side of the A-Frame for my 1982 Piper 1400L which is beginning to rust very badly, which bolts onto the main chassis section in two separate sections

An identifying plate on the chassis states that is a B&B Sigma II also there is a make of Cosalt together with a serial number on another plate elsewhere on the chassis,

Is there anybody out there who can help me as to where I can go to purchase this new A-frame part.

I cannot find an address / phone number for Cosalt, has it changed name over the years,if so what is the new name for them?

Cosalt ceased to exist quite a while ago,and were swallowed up by one of the big manufacturers.I might be wrong but I thought BB chassis still existed I thought in Leamington not far from Alko but stand to be corrected. You could ask your local caravan dealer workshop if they know there whereabouts.

Failing that you could try one of the many breakers yards, failing that scan your local allotments older vans often end up as 'sheds' and you might come across another Piper they were a popular van in their day.

hello Steve, why not go to a good fabrication/engineering shop and have some folded out of good grade mild steel.obviously the radias may not be identical on the fold but as long as the dimensions are correct it should be fine.

Just thought that this might be of interest to you.

Kenmore Caravans in Mirfield (West Yorkshire) are currently selling on a well known web auction site a full copy of the service and maintenance instructions for B&B Chassis covering Beta chassis upto 1972 and Sigma 1972-1982. Interestingly, the front cover address on the manual is Al-Ko Kober at Royal Lemington Spa.

Have you tried: Johnnie Longden, Unit 24 Dawkins Road, Poole, Dorset, tel: 01202-679121. I think they bought up all remaining stocks of B&B chassis spares but don't take my word on this. It might be worth giving them a call.

Good luck.

B&B were acquired by Alko and Alko still use the B&B factory, Cosalt tourers became Abbey and that name went to Swift. Cosalt Statics though are still going.

You can try Longdons but I have a feeling you will be disappointed, I think Seth has the simple answer, a local fabricator will knock one up cheaply in no time.
