A New Adventure Lies Ahead

Please don't disown me!!

We have today finally decided to change over to the other side,
we have put a deposit down on a Motor-home and the caravan will be traded in.

This has been bought about due to a number of reasons, mainly health scenarios, hospital appointments and
resulting in the lack of use of the caravan (twice last year).
I am currently awaiting yet another op for a recurring problem.
We decided that a motor-home would be a bit easier for setting up etc and would allow us more spur of the moment outings.
Got fed up last year waiting for appointments and dates, and not being able to get out and about.
We will obviously have to get used to a few different things, like keeping the fridge full of beer (less shopping trips).

Oh and to cap it all off the adventure continues, we have a new puppy having lost Buddy last year we now have a cavapoo

Meet Paddy

Good for you. Keep getting out there. And you still have a leisure vehicle to clean. 😀. Paddy is adorable.

Friends of ours who had never been camping (apart from Scouts and Guides) bought a motorhome in their mid sixties. They considered both caravan and motorhome but opted for the latter. They absolutely love it and welcome the spontaneity. Last summer the even took it on an extended tour to France. The first time either had driven to Europe.

But don’t think any fears of damp or poor dealerships will disappear, they don’t 😢

Good luck with your new adventures and the pooch will no doubt love it too. 👍

Why is it a given that any of us will (have to) move to the dark side? As I get older and more decrepit I don't see a motorhome as any more attractive than it ever was.

Good luck Kev & Paddy, each to their own.
Sadly Roger if I have to get my other shoulder replaced I will find it extremely difficult to attach the wheel locks, hitch lock etc.

I have been practising for the last four weeks using the old and new shoulder. A lot of adjustment has been necessary but I am managing almost 90% of caravan things .It will improve . But not I fear if the other needs replacing. Hence why even I after a lifetime of camping and caravanning I may have to consider a change.
Realistically for me I can’t see that change happening in the fore seeable future.😎

Thanks for all your replies and good wishes folk's.
Here's a question for you, perhaps someone can explain.
I'm not (yet) defending the saying but what does..
"moving to the darkside" actually mean?
And what do motor homers call caravanners?

"moving to the darkside" is an expression used to mean switching to the "opposition"

I'd imagine that motorhomers switching to a caravan might equally say they're moving to the darkside!

Gaga ... Oh Gaga what have you done?:)

No seriously Good Luck to all 3 of you in your new adventures.
Always ready for a meet as and when!
Remember health comes first.
Not sure yet Gafferbill but will let you know in time.
Our thinking is, as I'm still working with a couple of years to go and missing out on new adventures and quality away time this could be the opportunity we have been looking for.

A little update....................................
We are motor home less!!!
Could not put my faith in the dealer, I rang them 4 times to speak to the rep, each time they promised they would ring back, didnt hear a peep until this Wednesday when they did actually ring me, the conversation going like this:
Them: When are you collecting your motorhome?
Me: why didnt you return one of my 4 calls
Them; I didnt get any messages, sorry, when do you want to collect it?
Me: have you put the new MOT on it
Them: No
Me: have you done the service, habitation service, gas check and fixed the problems I pointed out
Them: No, No, No No
Me; Why would I want to collect it then?
Them: You can take it and return it later to have it sorted with any other problems you find.
Me: that refundable deposit I paid to you I would like it back please
Them: Gone quiet
Me: Well can I have it or not?
Them: If you feel that way...................I can arrange it
Me: Thank you
Deposit refunded today.

Apparently they sell anything from 70 to 80 per month!!
Was I being unreasonable?
I dont think so...........got off lightly me thinks,
Im off hunting.

I think you were correct Kev. Don't give up on the motor home scene though, the right one from the right dealer will come through.

If you see one at White arches Wellingborough, you can stay with us whilst looking. Dog friendly, as you know

If they were that poor on the sales front I shudder to think what their after sales performance is like.

I know it is usually only banter, but I detest the way that some people will refer to the alternative holiday home on wheels as if its crime. Both genres share a lot of similarities, and common problems like brothers and sisters, and we should embrace the additional information we get to expand our knowledge, rather than to decry it.

As "Mr Plod" has accurately stated both Caravans and Motorhomes each have pros and cons, and it has to be down to personal preferences and needs which should determine which way to go.

Oh Kev, that’s really disappointing; but you were absolutely right to get your deposit back. There is plenty of fun in the chase; keep looking the right one from the right place will come along soon.
Keep us posted

Shocking behaviour!
They should be ashamed, but probably aren't..... it's not as if you are only spending a tenner.
Good for you for sticking to your guns and walking away.

Keep us posted and good luck.
