Hi,

I've been lurking here for a while and found inspiration to create a website focusing on cutting edge caravan, motorhome and expedition vehicle design.

I'd love to know what you guys think of it. You can find it at

squob.com

The most recent piece is about the extraordinary Mehrzeller caravan concept. It's sponsored by BMW and is one of the stars of the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon.

Hope you like the website, and do let us know what you think in the comments!

Best wishes,

Chris

Rather than the Mehrzeller looking 'Ikea', I'd describe it as a product of the Broadmoor school of design! Only a truly insane person could have come up with that!

Goering said that whenever he saw 'modern art' he instinctively reached for his revolver - and, viewing this bizarre manifestation of a disordered mind, one can understand what he meant.

Anyway, apart from the aesthetics (or lack, thereof) the complexity of the thing means damp in bucketfuls - it's heard enough to keep a rectangular box sealed properly, what chance this Geodesic-nightmare? ;)

As Peter says, it's good to see a change from run of the mill vans. The Mehrzeller is a provocative jump into a possible future - but no doubt we'll see elements of this thinking in future production models from established manufacturers.

The only innovation in styling and aesthetics seems to be coming from the Continent these days. Hopefully the British industry can catch up before it goes the way of Leyland!

It's a good thing that design schools and their students are now paying attention to caravans.

Chris

PS: I'd say that it was Goering who suffered bizarre manifestations of a disordered mind, rather than a couple of designers from Austria!
