It may not be realised that some dog foods for working dogs are VAT-free. We have been buying such foods now for years since we were told about it at The Game Fair at Bowood House back in the late 1970s, not all that long after VAT was introduced. We were passing a stall that sold dry dog food and the stall holder called us over and told us about it. He even gave us a sizeable free sample there and then and our lurcher and Irish setter absolutely loved it. Well before the internet and automated cash transfers we would order deliveries from afar.
Since then all of our dogs have fed on various makes and all have lived long and good lives, even taking 15 kg sacks to France to keep their dietary regime steady. When I look at the ingredients and nutrition I sometimes think we might be better eating it ourselves.
Epitome of a working dog just patiently waiting for Dad to take her out to the fields.
