Planning our route for tomorrow. How towable is this. Internet research provides mixed opinions. Is the A171 to Scarborough a better bet?
TIA

Hi Mel if you are going from Pickering to Whitby you should be ok as the hills are mostly downhill but if going the reverse i would use the a171 as some of the hills are a bit steep hope this helps you we use to use this route quite often but the hole of holcum hill coming from whitby was a low gear job with a coach full has a very sharp bend on it

Whitby to Pickering involves Blue Bank at Sleights. It is rated 1:5 but is 1:4 in places. If you have a good power/weight ratio you should get up it UNLESS you get stuck behind a truck or double decker (yes!) bus. Then you might end with a burnt out clutch.
Go A171. You will still have to face Stepney Hill in Scarborough but it is much easier and shorter.

Thank you. Took your advice and went via A171. Not a troublesome tow at all.

Go oh, Mel, we had thought about coming up on Wednesday, but very strong cross winds predicted so will keep it to Thursday.
