A303 or M4/M5

I will be towing the van to North Cornwall from Essex on Aug 5th.

I was going to use the M4/M5 but have been told that the M3/A303 is a good alternative.

Has anyone used this road? are there any good stopping points on the way?

Many Thanks,

Mick

We go to Cornwall quite often and always use the M3 - A 303 route.

Plenty of place to stop and most of the road is dual carriageway. Sunday eveniings you can have hold ups where two lane narrow to one but compared to M4 and M5 and problems especially around Bristol when we visit family it is much better on the A303 route. And the Bristol route adds about 40 miles more than the M3 A303 route.

Friends near Newbury drive over the M4 and down the A43 to the A303 when they head to Cornwall as they find it quieter, more relaxing to drive and less troublesome.
