how about stonehaven its 10ish miles from the outskirts of aberdeen,i think the site is still there,it is council owned nothing on it but on the seafront and next door to the outdoor swimming pool ,there was also a playpark close by. try googling story book glen as well to see if still there it was a fantastic theme park type park.full off story book people ie.,the old lady who lived in a shoe, and the like , mine all loved it but they are 29 and 30 now.

it was at marycoulter about 7 mile from the site.

We live in north east Aberdeenshire.

I would not go to the council site at Stonehaven. Looked very down at heal the last time we walked past it.

I would recommend the Caravan Club site at Banchory - known as Silverbank. Nice quiet site but within easy reach of Aberdeen.

There is a commercial site at Maryculter, Lower Deeside holiday park. Haven't used it ourselves, we prefer CC sites, but it gets a good name.

If you like CL's there is a good one near Ellon.

i would not go back to Banchory again. i didnt find this a very child friendly site and my brother went 8mths later and said the exact same (this was due to other caravaners) we felt this park was more an adult only site as the van had alot of sesonal van's belonging to non family groups, the swing park is a good walk along a busy road only good thing about site is distance from Aberdeen. sorry but this is my opinion

You could try Ballater a little further on from Banchory and a nice well run Council site. Or a little farther north Banff, another Aberdeenshire Council run site with a good beach and play park.

Stonehaven can be a bit of a hit or miss if the harr comes in it can be cold even in June. I agree the Stonehaven site can look a little run down especially when the statics are removed for the winter months. Again a good play park close by

Grantown on Spey is another quality site within distance of Aberdeen for a day trip, but with plenty going on in the surrounding area.

There's a nice quiet site just outside Kintore which is less than 20 miles from the centre of Aberdeen. Site is called Hillhead and run by a gent called Dennis.

Happy New Year!

Hi

I have stayed at both the commercial site at Maryculter and the council run site at Ballater.

Both were excellent with the Maryculter site a good bit closer to Aberdeen itself, if you intend to spend a lot of time in Aberdeen then that is the one I would choose.

Ballater though is a nice wee place and if your plan was not to spend much time in Aberdeen then I would plump for Ballater as this is better to look around the upper deeside area which is worth doing.

Alternatively if you are going for two weeks I would spend a week in each.

Hope this helps.

Deeside Holiday Park on the south side of Aberdeen is one of our favourites. It is near Maryculter and has a pub serving excellent food within walking distance. There is also Aden Caravan Park at Mintlaw which is about 15 miles north of Aberdeen. It is also very nice situated in a country park.
