Absolutely brilliant first ever weekend!!!

What a start to our first ever caravanning experience - beautiful perfect weather and our lovely neighbours accompanying us to be 'on hand' for any first time teething problems. Stayed at CC Broadway - beautiful and very friendly fellow caravanners. Dogs on site, never a problem and two cats in a cage outside as well! Loved the experience, and slept quite well considering it was a new experience. Even managed to rig the fairy lights around the awning for Sat night - very homely.

A couple of minor niggles with the van which we'll let the dealer know when it's in to have the mover fitted. Some funny moments - our 15 and half year old son stomping around in the van and flomping down onto the seats, slamming delicate cupboard doors etc. - must teach him the 'caravan walk' and to be gentle. He loved it, despite being quite poorly - I think he was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and how 'like home it looks Mum with your candles flickering in the window' (they were flameless!). And me soaking my OH with water as he asked me to turn on the tap at the chemical disposal - he was worried people wouldn't think it was water!).

Towing to and from was smooth, and the telling comment of the weekend was yesterday as we pulled up onto our drive when my husband sighed and said quite simply, "I wish we were still on holiday there, I can't wait to retire and then you can commute from where ever we're staying to work!" I don't think so mate as I'm ten years younger than you - you can jog on and wait until I can join you fully!! We are already looking to book for w/e 24 March if we can get somewhere quite near. Loved it!

Hi Lisa
I'm glad that your first weeend away in the caravan went so well!
There are loads of sites both large and small for you to spend your weekends away on and it looks as though you are going to become an addict like the rest of us

It's a lovely feeling isn't it Erica - knowing that you can go away as and when it suits you. We wanted to go away next weekend but then my OH realised that he's working all weekend as he's having the first week of Easter Holidays off! Oh well, we're booking up weekends in September and October now to make sure we eek the caravan enough in the sunnier months! Enjoy next weekend

Hi Lisa.

You sound so happy with your caravan, and i hope it stays that way. We are just the same cant wait from one outing till the next. We are off this Saturday for week, then home for two and away again for easter. Then hopefully every second weekend to a nearby CL site till the summer hols in July. Also we use ours all year round. Its a great life would be bored silly without our van.

Enjoy as many times away as you can .

Oh no Forest, I couldn't do that! What, let him loose on his own? Those poor people at Blackmore need me to stop him from talking their hind legs off. Very friendly chap is my OH - must be from being underwater all those years on a sub, you have to get on with people!!!

Hi Dougie, yes we are happy and as it's costing so much our attitude is to use it as much as we can to get the most out of it ... life is too short and precious and we intend to enjoy it as much as we can without breaking the bank lol!

Our 14 year old lad is 6ft 2 and chunky and hasn't mastered the "caravan walk". For this reason I try to keep him in the awning

. I have achieved this with a sleeping annexe on the awning, equipped with electricity from which he can run a laptop and charge his i-thing. Several duvets stop him complaining of the cold and we generally eat in the awning. So far this has worked well; although when we went away in January, I did let him in the van, as it was abit cold.

Hi Mel - that sounds like a fab idea as we found ourselves in the awning as he overtook the front lounge area and hogged the tv and radio to watch/listen to footie!!!! Once the weather is warmer we have an inner tent and I think we will encourage him to sleep out there. He wants to bring his PS2 with him when we go away at Easter ... juries still out on that one. I'm thankful he wants to come away with us as I'm sure it won't last much longer bless him lol.
