I wish to fit an additional Aluminium Awning Rail above the Factory Existing one.
This would be sited on the roof close to the edge, using S/S screws and Sicaflex 512
The reason for this is to accommodate a Fiamma Caravan Store Blind, and then a Porch Awning could be fitted to the original as and when required.
Anyone done this? ~ Comments and advise regarding this would be appreciated.
Asked Bailey - They suggested contacting a qualified dealer as they were not qualified to advise !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go on, Ill fall.

Whats the point, it only takes minutes to feed a Fiamma through the rail, why ruin a perfectly good roof?

You miss the point !
I wish to fit the Fiamma Caravan Store (In it's Bag) to the new rail as a permanent fixture, and have the option of using the existing rail for a Porch awning as and when required.
Fitting a Rail on the roof edge, if done correctly, would not compromise the roof in any way, as far as I see it.
It of course has the be fitted in a position where there is sufficient framework for screws etc. to grip - not directly into virgin aluminium.
This is why I have requested comment from other caravaners who might have carried tis operation out..

Surely the bag hanging down from the roof mounted rail will cover the existing rail so it can't be used for a porch awning?? :eek:hmy: Or are you saying you will have to lift the bag and rest it on the top of the porch?

If you want to ruin any resale value of your caravan and expose it to a huge possibility of water ingress go ahead.
I'd strongly advise against adding an additional rail because as already mentioned, it is a simple matter to deploy a Flamma Caravan Store.

I think that the shape of the Caravanstore bag awning is that it is designed to fit into a side mounted/factory awning rail as that allows the weight of the awning in its bag to lay as close and flat to your van, if you were to fit it in an awning rail on the roof then surely the bag would be then in an outward protruding position and subceptable to strong winds combined with road speed could cause unnecessary lifting/flapping.

I have a Fiamma Caravanstore on my Abbey Vogue and basically slide it into the factory fitted rail when we are going away for just a longish weekend or even a week then when we want to go away for a longer period we simply remove the Fiamma and then take the Full Awning/Annex fed through the same track.

No, have never done or would do what you are contemplating due to compromising the roof to water etc.

But just my thoughts.

Gilbo.
