I have a bessacarr cameo and find the lighting for reading purposes at the front of the van dreadful and intend to install more substantial lighting any ideas please

I suppose the easiest option would be to plug in a lamp!

Otherwise, I think 12V spotlights are cheap and easily available from a caravan shop, you could fit one in each corner.
 
I fitted a single fluorescent strip under the pelment by each of the two front side windows and find these much better for reading than the four spotlights which were original fitment. They use a lot less energy as well.
