Some say it's the pink causing the black algae, others have used pink for years without getting the black bits.

Hi Gilbert

I have experienced the same problem, normally caused by leaving the pink fluid in the toilet flush tank for too long. I now make a habit of completely emptying the flush water tank after every outing then flushing with fresh water a couple of times until all the pink fluid is out of the tank. I also use the Thetford flush tank fluid 4 times a year just to clean and sanitise the tank. Since doing this I have had no problems.

It is interesting to note that I never used to have this problem with previous caravans, but the last two vans I have had this problem has occurred. We have always used the same "popular fluid" as well.

Hope this helps

when we first got our used van, we had black bits coming from the tank too. However, i stopped using the fluid because i didnt like the smell, and after a short while, the black bits disappeared.

I have always used the Thetford Pink in the flush tank without any black bits appearing but I always empty it out as part of the final emptying of the toilet before leaving at the end of a stay.
