Advice on conversion to 13 pin euro electrics

I have recently bought a vehicle with a 13pin europlug and my caravan still has the old grey and black 12N and 12S system.I bought an adaptor and have recently towed with it and it came apart because I had obviously put too much tension on it. I would like to have both wires connected into the one 13pin plug.Is this possible and is it relatively easy to do?

Thanks very much

Having wired my "new" car for 13-pin, I've done exactly as you require to modify the caravan from 12N+12S to 13-pin.

Strip the outer insulation from the last 6" of the caravan's 12S cable - lie the individual 12S cables along the 12N and wrap the lot in insulating tape - the diameter of your "new" cable will be small enough, just, to fit through the gland of the 13-pin plug.

Alternatively, get a couple of metres of full specification 13-core cable from Sergents (beware much 13-core isn't full spec) - attach the 13-pin plug at one end and connect to existing 12N/12S in a waterproof junction box.

Another way of securing the wires when doing the two seven pin to 13 pin is, as Roger has said, strip the outer cover off and form a single bunch of wires then use heatshrink to make a single cable to go through the gland of the 13 pin plug.

Heatshrink will make a waterproof cover and will tighten up the wiring as it shrinks to give a really neat finish.
