Advice - returning to caravanning

Decided to return to one of my best adventures. Need some advice please. Can't afford to change my car. Ford Focus 13 plate 1.5 eco boost (150ps) 6 speed manual. Brochure says max towable 1500kg, kerb weight 1325 kg which I know is 1126kg @85%. Adverts for lightweight vans not clear or not helpful. Given awning etc is transported in van, any ideas what I should be looking at. Would be an older type van because of cost. Any info or guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks.

From your figures the maximum loaded van should have an MTPLM of about 1126kg. This is the maximum weight, including contents of battery, water containers, awning, motor move (if fitted), clothes, food, etc.

You can always transport the awning in the car

I have a air frame porch awning and it doesn't take up much space at all and is light, easily transportable in the back of your car.
Older doesn't necessarily mean lighter but smaller quite often does when it comes to caravans.

I would not regard 85% as sacrosanct as it is only a recommendation, but at the same time I would not exceed it by more than two or three percent. At that weight you will be very limited to probably just small lightweight two berths although there are a couple of four berths but these will be very tight for space. There are a fair number of two berths as just about everybody has one or two in their line up.
If you are buying second hand it is really a question of what design suits you best. Other than buying something completely different like the Eriba Troll which is a good buy but very much a matter of taste the others will be pretty much the same. I would take your time and look round a few dealers to get a good idea of what is out there.
I would agree with the previous advice though in that the car is probably the best place for an awning.

Hi. How many berths are you looking for. This will have some bearing on your choice. Lightweight 2 berths bit easier to find than lightweight 6 berths. Also what is your max budget. This will narrow the field and we might be able to point you in the direction of some specific makes and models.

have a god look around the dealers used models. There will always be a gem stone somewhere that will suit your car and budget.
A wild card perhaps but have you considered a trailer tent or folding caravan? They are usually very well equipped and are light.
