Aerial in or out???

Hello everyone,

Was hoping someone would be able to give me some advice about buying an aerial for our 1984 compass van. It does not have any aerial at present but it does have an aerial socket on the inside and a socket on the outside to attatched the aerial. we were just going to buy an internal aerial and combined signal booster and plug it striaght into the tv. Will this be ok? Any advice would be very welcome as we are new to caravanning.

Many Thanks

hi my personal choice would be an outside ariel every time whenever i used the indoor type i found the picture quality inferior and the signal booster next to useless. i would also get a freeview box. hope this helps happy caravaning. regards john

holly

just off ebay i use the same sort of aerial and it works better than my roof top go through ebay cos seen the same one nearly

Aerials do not work well inside caravans as the caravan equates to something approaching a Faraday Cage (Google it.)

Frankly I wouldn't bother with a TV aerial per se, get satellite. You will then have a good signal pretty well wherever you go.

I've been looking into this as my status aerial is next to hopeless. These guys seem to know what they're talking about (not a recommendation, yet) http://www.aerialsandtv.com/touringaerials.html#AerialRecommendationsForBoats

Cheers,

Cor, a plastic Faraday Cage, I must remember to tell my Electronics Professor if I ever see him again.

That would have saved a couple of companies I worked for a fortune, no need for all that wire mesh, bonding etc.
