I just came across this group on Facebook. It appears you can just post in your damaged photos and they may rejuvenate it. You can scroll though the work which is truly fantastic. If you have a poor old picture you might want to give it a go.

I have seen various examples of folks changing photos on FB using AI. There was a lovely example of de-aging Patricia Routledge back through her brilliant career. AI may be of use here but I still view it with great suspicion ( Luddite??) Also need to remember that AI is no match for natural stupidity.

AI still has a long way to go - one of the other forums I use recently introduced an AI contributor to answer technical queries - more times than not it gave incorrect information although it waffled on eloquently.

I first came across FB during a holiday to France where regular visitors to the small site used it to keep in touch amongst themselves and the site owners. My kids (50+) use it and my wife recently joined so she can see what her brother is doing in his daily. activities in the care home. But the grandkids have long moved on to other social media.
 
AI can manipulate the picture to show a younger person and then un knowing to you, use the picture for nefarious and perhaps illegal means. As Roger has mentioned, on many occasions when doing a Google AI has come up with the incorrect or misleading answer or summary. I do not trust it!
 
My grandson is doing a masters in AI and was giving me a walk through on where it is being used, sometimes with good effect, other times with questionable results. One of the key areas is in medical interpretation, especially of symptoms and test/scan results, where in breast or lung scan interpretation its success rate betters that of specialist radiographers. But even in such outcomes the final decision is normally made by a MDT.

Following a significant loss of blood in April my follow up tests included a 24 hr ECG. The results were all interpreted by AI in a specialist unit in Leeds, released via a cardiac specialist and sent to my GP. No need to look and pay for parking at Bath RUH.
 
These days the tag "AI" seems to be associated with any form of automation and used as if its some sort of magic! Around the middle of the last century we had some AI that automatically turned our heating on and off without any human intervention, its called a Thermostat!
 
AI is NOT a problem. In fact it is very often a solution. People and misuse however, is a problem. We have to train ourselves to spot the scams. Something that is getting increasingly hard.

In the infancy of the internet, I had to mark students work and is was surprisingly easy to spot the content which had been pulled down, copied and pasted. However, some of my colleague's who had no IT knowledge, were very easily duped by there students.

Oddly, I had no problem copying and pasting content when preparing lessons. 😖

I read a good book on AI called “ The Coming Wave” by Mustafa Suleyman one of the principal developers of AI in UK who Co- founded Deepmind, now CEO OF Microsoft AI.

As John C says it’s a complex topic with lots of false understandings, but also some serious challenges and implications for the future.
 
If AI is as universally intelligent and infinitely superior to human capabilities then if so will it be of any use in stopping such things as hacking and what can it be employed to do,replace politicians ?

Just looking in a mirror without your glasses on can achieve the same result and it's cheaper.

Don't get me started on AI as I have serious concerns about it and I think the bubble will burst after we've all consumed vaste amounts of biased and inaccurate information, loosing the ability to think ourselves.

Why can't monkey be posted into marking predictive text work.🤔

AI says absolutely NO , the complete opposite to everything said by a number of our learned Forumites!

I’m very sceptical now about the accuracy of AI. Maybe it’s just a later version of GIGO😉

A lot of AI is trained on scanning stuff on the Internet - web pages, forums, news outlets etc. There's a lot of false information out there so how do they determine which is accurate or not.

AI models are now training themselves on each others data since the source data is drying up as people and organisations become aware of what's being grabbed for free and they're starting to put up Paywalls.

Garbage perptuates more garbage.

AI or rather Machine Learning can have some practical benefits but its being pushed down the throats of businesses as a way of becoming more profitable - less people. Some recent reports have said that while the intial use of AI in businesses is saving time for some people - compling reports etc - they are actually spending more time checking and correcting the output of said AI systems 'cos its rubbish.

Its also being pushed on consumers in the hopes that they'll by more stuff or can grab what they're asking it so that they can target ads to you. This was the hope of things like the Amazon Alexi - just ask it to buy this or that. From what I gather this has never taken off and most people seem to use it as an alarm clock, play music or turn the lights on.

I use Alexa for the weather forecast as I get up and have my tea and biscuit. At least she says “ Good morning Clive” which is more than I get from the hound. All she’s after is a bit of Digestive.
