Air Con

Has anyone had any experience of using a portable aircon unit (2kw)in a caravan? How many amps are required to run such a unit? - Any advise much appreciated.

Hello Scott, I have experimented with portable air con units in caravans. Provided thet evapourator coil discharges its warm air directly outside, Typically through a fixed ventilator grill) the units can be quite effective. The power consumption is quoted as 2000 Watts this equates to 2000W divided by 230Volts gives 8.7 Amps.

A 2kW unit is rated for it's output. It'll consume more than that in electricity input, about 10 amps. The main problems with portable air-con units is their weight and the need to stand idle for 24 hours after being moved, not much use on a touring holiday!
