could someone tell me roughly how much it will cost to have air con installed on the van and where i can get it done somewhere in or near the north east.

You could take a look here at Air con prices a lot depends on what size of unit you require ? i have thought of putting one of the Dometic CA1000 abouve our bedroom area as we can close that off ...
 
Have you checked if your van roof can take an air con unit? It needs to be strong enough. You can also get floor mounted ones, but they need ducting to distribute the air.

I would be a little bit wary of the extra weight too especially being up on the roof.

But maybe they are pretty lightweight units...im not sure
