As a newbie to the forum (registered today) but having subsribed to Practical Caravan fo the last 3 years, please accept my apologies if this question has already been asked.

We have just ordered a new Bailey Burgundy that comes with an AKS 3004 Stabilzer and I know there is an issue with 4 x 4's. My question is, is there an issue with Freelanders?. Does any one have the same set up and hasnt had to purchase the retro fit modified handle.

Thanks in Advance

Thanks Ian for your reply, its early days yet as the 'van isnt due until Feb. I just wanted to get everything ready for March.

You mentioned that it cant be used in transit, does that mean you have to replace the original red (offending) handle when traveling and only use the mod one when hitching up and de-hitching.

ps I arn't the worlds best at reversing prefering to man handle our current Bailey Ranger into position, as the Burgundy is considerably longer and heavier I have taken the option of a Truma Original soft start motor mover, do you have one fitted? if so what experiences have you had

Regards

Mark

Hi MARK

you can either put it but on or leave it off it only takes seconds to do if you have a cordless drill or you canleave it off until you get back home that if you have a aframe cover but i just use it in tight spots either getting van from stowage or tight spots on site's which is very rare, and i am was thinking of getting a powermover but still have second thoughts because i can still manhandle the van we have and about reversing give it time you will crack it no body is perfect. when you get your new van i hope you and your family have a lot of fun in it.

Hi Mark,

We also have A freelander and an Alko hitch, i purchased the removable handle and its a god send, i know its expensive but you only have to buy it once.

We also have a motor mover although i can reverse the van ok, its just easier, quicker and alot less stressful, and you always get someone parked in the way to make reversing harder.

hi we also have a freelander and our van ( abbey aventura)as an alko hitch but i have never had a problem with the hitching.. i know it does catch on the tyre slightly but thats not enough of a problem for me to go and fork out extra money on the shortened handle for it.. all i do is just slightly pull the hitch away from the wheel as im winding down the leg.. its not a problem.. saves messing around with extra bits.. save your money.. daz
