Hi to you all out there. Can anyone tell me a Yes or No, as to whether the Al-Ko system when deployed activates the brake lights on the caravan as a warning to those following that it is about to slow down?. Also has anyone had the system Retro Fitted to a Twin Axle Caravan?.

Brake lights work off a switch or sensor in the car so the answer is no. However when the ATC operates it does so only enough to stop instability. I've experienced it a few times with pitching on an undulating road.

I see that you have already been told no
However that is not actually true in all cases because if like me you also have trailer control system on the car together with ATC then when the ATC activate the trailer control activates in the car so in those circumstances the brake lights do come on.

Secondly I have a twin axle and it was retro fitted by my dealer if you are considering purchasing ATC then I can honestly say it is money well spent

Are you saying that the same forces that activate the ATC also activate your car trailer control system and that they then activate the brake lights
Wouldn't you get the brake lights activating from the car system if no ATC was fitted?
There is no connection between the ATC and the car brake lights as such

The ATC and trailer control in the car are two totally independent systems. They may activate at the same time and for the same reason, but they are not linked in any way.

Hi Lutz and all others following this post. My car has the usual ABS and TRACS (TRACS can be enabled/disabled with a dashboard switch). It is also prone to Torque Steer (FWD and 255bhp)even with the Twin Axle on the back, and in a rapid take off from a standstill at certain types of junctions to join the flow it has surprising Get Up & Gone.
The reason for asking the question in the first place was the business of a visible warning to following drivers;in a similar way to the exhauster braking on HGV's. My understanding is that working off a depression in the manifold there is a momentary arresting of the speed, most notable on a decent and this appears to active the break-light circuit. In this context,I wondered if there was some sort of active pin/connection that was linked to the break light circuit/wiring harness of the caravan. Indeed, if the caravan is controlled from a Snake Potential it must surely be done by a momentary application of the caravan brakes;therefore however small a change in road-speed it should bring on a visible warning (Caravan Brake-Lights):eek:therwise how else would a trailing driver/rider be warned of a potential/possible incident?, if in the event of the ATC not doing what is said to be able to-do,for example on an unstable surface like snow, ice or frost covered surface.

No, the caravan's brake lights have nothing to do with the caravan's brakes but are merely an extension of the car's brake lights and these operate either by mechanical switch on the brake pedal or by a pressure switch in the brake servo unit.
As the electronic stabiliser is only activated by the onset of a snake, any following traffic would already be adequately warned by the caravan starting to sway before the stabiliser cuts in and puts an end to it.

There is a system called Brake Control(Reich) that works via the car/caravan brake lights
I have had one fitted for several years on different vans and it works well
I haven't fitted it on the California as it has the ATC already attached to the brake mecahinism
I can only recall feeling the ATC once when going round a roundabout with panache(too fast!)

I just tried Googling the Brake Control but all I can find is postings by myself on various forums interspersed with books on the 3rd Reich so it seems to be now defunct
