From my experience the majority of bikes aren’t fitted with a bell, or the riders are so brain dead they cannot fathom out how to use one, even when approaching from behind on a pavement. Grrrr

Back in the olden days it was illegal to sell a bike in the UK without an "audible warning device" fitted but at some point this requirement was withdrawn.
