Does anyone know how accurate this is http://217.199.167.226/pdfs/Jockeywheelnoseloadgauge.pd my only concerns are:

1) The jockey wheel is set back about 1'- 18" from the hitch so is this taken into consideration in the measurement?

2) The weight of the jockey wheel can't be taken into the measurement can it?

I would imagine that as its an Alko jockey wheel if fitted on an Alko chassis then the reading should allow for the distance to the towball hitch

Have you felt the weight of them?

From the pdf its 9.9kg which in real terms when you pick it up is HEAVY or 10% of a 100kg nose weight.

With many postings from people trying to get noseweight down only Alko could come up with something so heavy

Hi John,

I think you may have been a little unfair on Al-Ko, they do state that this is wheel is Practical for vans fitted with Movers, to give it more strength, and hence easier to move. As for the 9kg this must balance with the 33kg already given up for the movers being fitted close behind the axle. I don't know for sure, but someone must have done the nose weight calculation !!!. I am still willing to give up the 42 kg from theMTPM for the relaxing and stress free manouvering of a TA Van. ( ps don't know what the old fitted jockey wheel weighed )

Hi JohnG,

"With many postings from people trying to get noseweight down only Alko could come up with something so heavy"

Most European caravans are supplied by the factory with a noseweight between 30 kg and 50 kg - so it's not an issue with the major manufacturers.

Our Eriba Touring has a nose-weight of 35 kg - with two gas bottles in the front locker but otherwise empty. On our caravan, the ALKO heavy duty jockey wheel and Reich motor mover seem to balance themselves out.

There have been lots of postings about heavy nose weight and I can only get my Senator Oklahoma down to 100kg by moving heavy items to the rear of the axle and having hardly anything in the front box.

My friend witha Pageant Bordeaux has the same problem

The weight of the jocket wheel in question at 10kg would mean emptying the front locker.

We are talking about the one with a built in noseweight gauge and handling one at a dealer it is very heavy.

Frank I can't see how it is balanced out by the mover when they are both in front of the axle

Hi all,

I spoke to Al-ko today and they said that when you purchase one of these jockey wheels in the instructions is a formula to work out what the actual nose weight would be, this is done by means of measuring from the ball cup back to the centre of the jockey wheel leg, then a measurement taken from the ball cup to the centre of the wheel then you take the weight that is shown on the gauge and do some formula to get the figure this includes what is the max nose weight for tow bar & the max weight for the Al-ko hitch (the lower one is the one to use, by all accounts you only have to do this once as you can mark the figure on the gauge. Then if you change van or car you work it all out again.
