Al-Ko Stabiliser Shims

Hi,
I am replacing the side friction pads on a Alko stabiliser as one of them broke, long story but I don't know if there was a shim behind the friction pad or not.

How do you know or measure to find out if a shim is required ?

Help appreciated.
Thanks,
Gra

Thanks for the youtube guide but that only shows how the stabiliser arm should line up with the marks to indicate if the friction pads are worn or not.

From other things I've watched and read it suggests if the marker doesn't fall within the red and green area the suggestion is to replace friction pads and shim 'if there is one there already'.

There is still no mention of making alterations to add or remove shims.
