Al-ko Stabiliser - which one to go for?

Hi all,

After deciding to go for a motor mover, I'm also going to invest in an al-ko stabliser and get them fitted at the same time.

Although my van only has an MTPLM of 1100kg (so the Alko 1300 would suit) I've heard people say on the forum that this stabiliser can stick and be a bother to remedy.

As I'm a woman travelling on her own I want the least hassle - does the 3004 have the same problems?

Thanks in advance...

Beej,

There was a reported problem with early versions of the AL-KO 1300, and like all mechanical things - there may still be problems - and that possibility of a future problem applies to the AL-KO 3004 as well.

Probably the most important difference is in the ease of day-to-day use.

After you couple up the caravan to the tow-car - and click the normal handle in place - you then need to apply the stabiliser function.

With the AL-KO 1300, this is a two stage process - spinning the red-wheel to engage the friction pads and then closing the side handle.

With the AL-KO 3004, this is a one stage process - pressing down and closing a single (longer) handle to set and engage the friction pads.

And if there's a difference, it's that the 1300 is generally an easier device to engage - spinning the red-wheel takes no effort, and pressing the handle down is easy too. The 3004 will require just a bit more effort - but it does need the service guy to correctly set the number of shims in the coupling head - otherwise it can be very hard to close.
